Having thoroughly enjoyed my transition from COVID-induced hibernation to starting to go out but still masked up, I am sharing this message with you. Do something indulgent for yourself no matter how "small" or insignificant it might seem. It just has to have real meaning for you. This simple act of doing facial left me so recharged and determined to safely contemplate my old habits.
We just lucked out by having Vidya Nagarajan join Bossy Cosmetics as an advisor and we can't keep calm about it!! We are growing our team with thoughtful additions as either full-time hires or key advisory appointments to enrich the process of designing products, content, and experiences that delight ambitious working women all over the world. I am personally thrilled to have someone of Vidya's professional calibre and personal enthusiasm on the team! She'll be enriching our journey into leveraging technology to become a true community that creates synergies amongst various groups of women. We are truly excited for what's to come!
I fully expected Aubrey to be amazing and knowledgeable about Equitable Design but I wasn't quite prepared for her to be so darn likable while doing it! So it does help that she showed up to the IG live with beautiful pink hair, a cool pair of glasses, AND wearing our HUSTLE lipstick. She then proceeded to drop real gems about what it's like to live and operate at the highest echelon of the tech industry at the intersection of being a Mexican American woman with indigenous roots recognizing that she is white-passing while identifying as bisexual and living with bipolar disorder. When I tell you that it was a refreshing and really open conversation about how you effectively use empathy and lived experiences to design processes and systems within companies that make them work for everyone - IT WAS.
Thank you for being a supporter, friend, and Bossy loyalist. I am truly grateful for this community. I hope to continue to create products, content, and services that are worthy of your delight and adoration!
I was sent a notification on Clubhouse today that one of the gentlemen who “cancelled” me had joined and I smiled and wondered if he was still in the business of weaponizing his privilege to destroy prospects for women. One day I will ask him.
I'm so excited to share that today Bossy Cosmetics was featured on The View on ABC in the View Your Deal segment! You can catch my novice attempt to film the segment below. My heart is literally bursting with joy and pride at seeing my "babies" on screen and I must say that they look stunning!!
What's most exciting about this news is not everything else that I said above but her journey and the product that she created. She was one of the early employees of dating app, Tinder, but left that company with a fair bit of drama and legal issues that resulted in s settlement. But Whitney didn't let disappointment stop her from pursuing her dreams. She went on to start Bumble, another dating app, whose core philosophy is empowering women to take the first move! It's a simple different but it made ALL the difference and she created a juggernaut that will go beyond dating into a host of categories that we are yet to watch unfold.
Hopefully by now you are aware that we have this "essential service" offering whereby if you spend over $50 on products on the site, you are immediately eligible to receive a COMPLIMENTARY hour of coaching from a broad array of experts on the wiseHer platform.
Our newly minted Vice President is a woman, a person of color, and to be specific - Black and South Asian. Her existence as the Vice President is the absolute typification of shattering the glass ceiling. America has never managed to have a female President nor Vice President and now we have the first one AND she is multi-racial which is such a beautiful depiction of the way our world is shaping up to be. Forget about party and forget the recent attempted coup - we MUST celebrate Kamala D. Harris. This is EXACTLY what we do at Bossy Cosmetics, we celebrate and amplify the success of women. Period. We encourage one another to level up in our careers and professional pursuits, it is why we created Beauty Meets Wisdom. Period. We have adopted the name "Bossy" to reclaim a negative term so that women and girls understand that their voices should be heard. Period.
Not only is Iké a supportive Bossy customer, she is a mom to 4 children, wife to an amazing guy, and a total BADASS corporate lawyer at The Clorox Company. Most of all, I LOVE Iké's spirit. She's always so positive and effusive in her reflections. I was grateful that she agreed to sit with me to talk about her life as a working mother AND a focused career professional.
