Stacey Abrams y'all.

January 06, 2021

Stacey Abrams y'all.

May I preach a word today please? I mean, STACEY ABRAMS 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟⠀

That really should be enough to say but there is so much more about her and so many other people that turned this election season completely on its head. But today I'd like to acknowledge Ms. Abrams and thank her for being a living testimony of how to completely personify what it means to be bossy (as we define it). ⠀

She is a woman who walks with purpose and galvanizes action for the good of those whose voices aren't heard. She proves that loss and disappointment does not mean that your battle is over or that your work is done. Your purpose on this planet is most likely bigger than you and even though it may not have global impact like Ms. Abrams as far as it impacts someone, it is worthy of recognition and celebration. ⠀

Ms. Abrams has never been shy about owning her ambition and acting on it. She is an example for all of us! When she put the word out that she would love to be considered for the VP position alongside Biden, people admonished her for not being more demure about her aspirations. #$@% that! Ask for what you want! Her innate bias is to act in spite of all the vitriol and disappointment she has experienced. She is long-term oriented and shoots to win with war, not just the battles. She is relentless and because of her, and many others, we have a greater chance for change to come for more people than it did over the last 4 years.⠀

This post isn't about being a Democrat or a Republican. It's about stepping into your purpose and working tirelessly, in spite of loss and failure, toward an end goal that is larger than you. ⠀

Let's learn from STACEY ABRAMS and live out our purpose in 2021 and beyond.⠀

Not only is Iké a supportive Bossy customer, she is a mom to 4 children, wife to an amazing guy, and a total BADASS corporate lawyer at The Clorox Company.  Most of all, I LOVE Iké's spirit.  She's always so positive and effusive in her reflections.  I was grateful that she agreed to sit with me to talk about her life as a working mother AND a focused career professional.

Do Women Really Support Women?

December 23, 2020

It got me thinking about how loosely we use the term "women supporting women" and when it is necessary and when it's not.  I spent 20 years in the global finance industry, which is male-dominated, and so finding women to support my journey especially early on in my career was a rarity. There were times when I felt conflicted with when engaging with female colleagues that were not performing at the level expected of them.  What do you do then?  Will you be deemed a toxic female employee when you are truthful in your assessment of a female employee that hasn't pulled their weight?

2020 Forbes Power Women Summit

December 11, 2020

I am what the young folks call a "Mellody Hobson stan."   Her professional accomplishments would be otherworldly admirable for a white man and as a Black woman, they are stratospheric.  Mellody was recently named as Chair of the board of a whole Starbuck and she also sits on the board of JP Morgan.  In the world of corporate board dynamics, Mellody is head of the class and can teach this stuff in her sleep.  She's a mom, wife, leader, and she's a fearless executive who speaks openly about race in America.  I think that last point is why I really admire her.  If you have Black friends in corporate America, they will tell you that speak openly about race is an undue burden that will more than likely negatively impact your progression.  Mellody is showing us how to do it all and for this, I stan!
