Redefining what it means to be BOSSY

Redefining what it means to be BOSSY

THE INNER GLOW:

From the perspective of a sixteen year old BOSS

Throughout my life the term “bossy” has often been associated with negative connotations. It portrays individuals, often girls, in an overbearing and controlling manner, being unable to compromise or step back. However, it’s time to flip the script and reclaim what it actually means to be bossy. Instead of its history of being used as an insult to undermine assertive and confident women, being bossy should serve as a source of inspiration and empowerment.

So, what does it truly mean to be bossy, and how can this inspiring quality uplift women?

In order to explore these ideas, it’s important to redefine the meaning of bossy. Being bossy should not signify selfishness, excessive control, or the disregard of others feelings. Instead, being bossy means containing the confidence and strength to be a leader, making decisions that advocate for oneself along with others. Being bossy demonstrates someone who isn’t afraid to stand up for themselves or voice their opinions. It means someone who is confident and self-sufficient, while also having the ability to compromise with others’ desires. These qualities are all crucial to create change and make a positive impact. When we take a step back from using this term to erode the confident nature of women and redefine what it means to be bossy in this way, it can uplift women in many ways. Firstly, reinventing “bossy” from negative to positive connotations inspires women to take pride in being bossy. It encourages women to take on leadership roles and overcome imposed societal expectations. This mindset could bleed into the professional world, whether it be male-dominated fields like STEM work, oil-rig workers, electricians, politics, or any other aspect of life, which would only inspire more women and pave the way for more positive change.

So, next time someone calls you bossy, take it as a compliment. Being bossy is a symbol for female empowerment, it’s important to embrace your leadership and confidence with pride. Bossy people have the power to break down barriers, redefine success, and inspire many others. Being bossy should be celebrated! Be bossy!
